Black charmeuse is divine! Somehow shiny but flat. Must remember to make a party dress someday with it.

Dress of the Decade!

I would write an entire post about Princess Kate's wedding dress but I believe Gretchen from Gertie's New Blog for Better Sewing wrote it best! Get ALL the details!
I personally loved it as I think most people do too. Modest, modern and vintage all in one.
One of the ABC commentators mentioned something about how it was a nice change to the normal sleeveless wedding dresses of late. Agreed!

Old Lady Blouses

It's kind of funny how when I go into a thrift store I find all these amazing blouses that were undoubtedly formerly worn my little old ladies.
What's your take on these 'not very updated' but so chic chemises?
Me? Can't get enough.

Free Pattern Month Day 5 - Happy Together: Runaways The Dish and the Spoon Pattern

Slide1
Today's guest will make your heart melt. Please welcome Jessica of Happy Together and her adorable Runaway Dish and Spoon Pattern!
(Today's featured pattern after intro)
I discovered Jessica's blog through my flickr group and the first thing I ever featured was her lovely ruffled necklace tutorial. Although, had she not posted on Grosgrain flickr I would have definitely discovered her though her other projects which are always being featured on other great crafts sites too! She's quite crafty!
Front Front of my new shirt
She loves to try new refashions, making softies for the little ones and making dresses for her daughter.
I think my all time favorite was her Dress Up Skirt!
Her adorable petal backpack looks like something out of a high end children's boutique.

So cute
Jessica sews and crochet mainly, but loves to try other things too. Her grandmother and mom taught her the basics as a child, but she didn't really get into it until graduating from college. At that point, she began to reteach herself and learning how to do things better all the time.
She started her blog to be her creative outlet. (Sound familiar?!)
Says Jessica, "I want to share what I am doing with hopes of inspiring others."
Featured tutorials: above right, above left, below left and below right!
Now, please allow me to welcome Jessica and her sweet pattern!

Tutorials 21- Crochet Trim

Brilliant!

Hair 6 - Update

Just tried the last hair post to run errands around town.
And yes, she is using a bobby pin in step 6 and also a clear rubber band in step 5.
I didn't use the clear rubber band just more bobby pins.

Tutorials 22- Scalloped Edged Baby Blanket

I just had to post this! Looks divine! See Zaaberry's tutorial here.
Also love that color scheme for a baby's room. So retro.

Hair 6

Need to try this.

Free Pattern Month Day 4 - Elsie Marley: Knot Shorts Pattern

knot shorts tutorial by elsie marley
Today I'm so excited to share with you Meg of Elsie Marley's super adorable knot shorts tutorial!
(Today's featured pattern after intro)
I found Meg's blog when I happened upon her embroidered tin can cover tutorial which seems like ages ago. She embroidered a sweet little whisk onto her cover and it caught my eye.
But since then Meg has had so many more eye catching photos and projects! So many cute clothes for her children...AND herself! Her style is organic and fresh with sweet detailing in her buttons, trims and gathers. Like the lovely dresses for her daughter above and below.
She gets a lot of her inspiration from Japanese sewing books. And I'll have to ask her more about them because I've always wanted to try them! They have such creative and unique results! Like the skirt below!
Love her little girl's purple ruffle coat! I bet not a single other girl looked as stylish walking down the street!
I love Meg's story because it's so similar to mine (aside from her amazing talent for cooking which I definitely lack) and probably so similar to a lot of the crafting blogs I follow.

Says Meg, "I started to sew because my outlet for creativity--making delicate chocolates and elaborate desserts--was no longer possible with a little baby in tow. The first thing I made was a quilt, which, by the way, is a horrible first sewing project, but I learned about my machine and it got me excited to sew more. Since then I've learned to make clothes, plush toys, (better) quilts, and recently took up crocheting. All along the way, this wonderful and supportive craft blog community has helped me learn to make and inspired me to keep making."
And if you're wanting more Meg! (Like I do) She is having her Kids Clothes Week (KCWC) May 9th-15th! It's where a lot of the clothes you've seen in this post have come from. Serious inspiration!

It's one week where readers commit to sew one hour a day for 7 days. (Loving this already!) Sewing clothes, of course, for your kids!  Or other people's kids, but not your inner child and absolutely not your canine child. Want to make a big pile of little skirts and dresses and shorts and bow ties? Because a lot can happen in a week if you put in a little time each day. And with hundreds of people sewing along with you and cheering you on, well, you can't help but make great stuff! Go on the KCWC page and leave her a comment to let her know you're in!

Now let me let Meg do the talking! Meg, take it away!

Inspiration Home 1

Beth of Stories of A to Z came up with the best list of wall stencils. Good inspiration! And way cheaper than modern wallpaper! Not to mention easier to change. The idea of removing wallpaper intimidates me.
I've been thinking about doing this for my bedroom makeover (still not quite finished).
She's also having a fabulous giveaway for a stencil of your choice. Check it out!

Tutorials 20 - Corset

Actually MAKE this DIY corset. Via Cut out and Keep.

Wow 32

I think this would be doable. Just add long boa feathers on a strip and burned edged flowers like these and be sure to do it on a low backed dress. Instant gorgeous.

Tutorials 19 - Bustled Backpack

Me Sew Crazy made the cutest bustled backpack tutorial. Check it out!

Free Pattern Month Day 3 - One Pearl Button - Midi Skirt Pattern

1 midi skirt header
Today I'm pleased to welcome guest One Pearl Button!
(Today's featured pattern after intro)
I found One Pearl Button when looking for Polaroid tips. Check out her guide to taking Polarioids here. But along with her love of Polaroids, Alli also loves to sew, craft and just plain create!
Her favorite craft projects are simple, stylish, and make a big impact! Take this hideous Winnie the Pooh men's shirt (those two things should not be in the same sentence) and made it into a super cute plaid caplet.
Remember how I said she's also a 'crafter'? Love this vinyl iphone skin cover!
Or these magnetic paper dolls (which I've been dying to try myself).
On top of being a fabulous crafter and photographer, Alli is an archaeologist and attends graduate school.

Says Alli, "Although I consider myself the luckiest person in the world to have my dream job, I firmly believe that everyone needs a hobby!  OPB is mine.  I primarily blog about crafting (especially sewing, embroidery, knitting, and crochet) and photography, although posts about fashion, design, and life in general pop up, too!  My goals for this space are to share what I've created, to inspire readers to live their own creative lives, and to make connections with creative friends."
I'm so pleased to have Alli here on Grosgrain today and showcase her amazingness! Now, without further ado, let me present Alli and her midi length skirt pattern tutorial!

I Want One 10

Free Pattern Month Day 2 - A Lemon Squeezy Home - Loyalty Card Holder Pattern

Today I'm so pleased to be featuring Christie from A Lemon Squeezy Home.
(Today's featured pattern after intro)
I found Christie through a guest post she wrote on another crafting blog. I was instantly impressed by her photography, style and ideas. Her belt tutorials are divine! See the Anthro knock-off below!
I've been wanting to do a bustled gathered skirt tutorial for some time. Looks like someone beat me to it!
She has all these creative ideas for turning ordinary home items and find a dual use for them. Like this lunch money cuff tutorial!
And this sleepover pillowcase with hidden zipper storage! Genius!
So basically, if this is the first time you've been introduced to A Lemon Squeezy Home go to her site and FOLLOW HER! Like now. Like I do. Because who knows what new genius thing she'll come up with next?! Like changable show bows;)
Or this cute tute below? Christie.....take it away!
