Frock by Friday: Friday

By today you should have something that resembles this! Now you have something really cute to wear this weekend to the movies, on a date, out to eat, whatever. I love this frock. It's comfortable, light and a cinch to make.

Honestly, I could have called this 'A Frock by Today'. If I were you I'd try this again in another style. Only next time try to do it in one day. It's a very easy pattern.

On a separate note, I'm having one of my really BAD sore throats. I get them frequently from post nasal drip. They're the kind where talking and swallowing are difficult and painful. Do any of you suffer from these frequently too? Any advice as to get rid of them? Salt water and throat lozenges are no help.

Frock by Friday: Thursday

1. Take your band piece. It is the shorter of the two rectangle pieces you cut. Sew them together at the ends, right sides together.

2. Fold the piece so that the top and the bottom meet in the center. I did this with my bias tape maker. But if you don't have one just do it by hand. I recommend using your finger nails to make a long crease on either side and then try to iron.

1. Cut little 1/4" slits in the neckline of your bodice pieces. Do not cut deeper than that.

Frock by Friday: Tuesday

1. Take your pieces and place them on the fabric so that both straight edges of the dress pieces are on the fold. Depending on your fabric you can do this by either placing the first piece and the second piece above and below each other on your fabric.

My fabric is a little different. I have a design on mine. If you do too be sure that the design is centered on the dress pattern before you cut.


Then take the casing strip and the tie band and place them on the fabric so that you are cutting out two pieces NOT ON THE FOLD.

Done....for today. Sew easy, right?

Frock by Friday Fabric Suggestions

If you haven't bought your fabric just yet a couple of you have asked for some suggestions. I would recommend very lightweight fabrics. Cotton lawn, duponi silk, sari silk, Egyptian cotton, silky rayons, or a thin linen perhaps with a patterned bias tape trim. The above fabrics are from etsy sellers: theheydayshop and ZinniaSnipSnap.

Ohh, if you didn't mind wearing a slip you could use a non-traditional eyelet fabric might be cool, something with a large eyelet like this, or this, or this, or this.

The next frock by friday is.....

Well, the votes are in and ANDA is the winner. Now before all who voted for the second idea start to cancel your following of my blog;) Just kidding. Hermione J. Schwartz had a GREAT idea....

We will do the Anda frock this month and the second frock for late August. I think this will be actually pretty perfect because the second one looks more like a fall frock. School is starting, skirts are longer. Plus, the Anda is more of a loose light summer frock so it will be great for late July.

I'm so excited! So go get the Anda pattern here. And we will start bright and early on Monday!

Frock by Friday: July

Well, it's that time again. Next week I'd like to start another Frock by Friday. Now, I have two ideas in mind. Tell me what you think? One is very simple, great for beginners. The last one is definitely more advanced but I think the end result would be really interesting.
