Frock by Friday: FRIDAY!! The Weekend Frock

This dress was so much more easier than I thought, even with the alterations. It didn't turn out quite like the Modcloth version but I like it anyway.

The Modcloth version has a very different skirt piece. This one is more of a circle cut while theirs is more of a gathered rectangle cut. Plus, my material was a little thicker than I would have liked. I chose it because I thought the pattern looked similar to the Modcloth version but you can see that their version has an almost silky tissue thin material.

But I like it and I'm glad we could do it together. But I gotta tell ya, I'm pooped. This week has been rough for me. I'm really looking forward to this weekend. I'll be.....sewing. But at least I get to take the evening off. I think I'll try to coax Brian into a movie night. I kinda want to see "Let Me In". That or "Social Network".

And I think I'll wear this dress for our weekend date too.

There are two pdfs. Save them. Print them out and paste them together. There should be a bit of overlap for you to go by. i included a 3" test square to make sure you have printed it at the right size. Then cut it out.

Frock by Friday: Wednesday

If you are not doing the Modcloth version then all you have to do is skip to step 8.

1. Well, I went to the fabric outlet store near my home and lo and behold found some elastic lace! Two problems. Not in my color and I needed something to put behind it so my stomach doesn't show.

First problem I solved by buying wide elastic to put behind my lace.

Second problem solved by dying my elastic lace and wide elastic. See my tutorial on dying.

Frock by Friday: Tuesday

1. Sew the front bodice and back bodice pieces, right sides together. Be sure not to sew the wrong sides to the front bodice. I've done that before. Not fun.

2.  Sew the back skirt pieces to the front skirt pieces. Again, sure not to sew the wrong sides to the front bodice.

3. Hem the bottom of the skirt. You can make this as deep as you want. I made mine about an inch deep and used a blind stitch.

DONE FOR TODAY! There wasn't much happening today. The next few days will pick up. I want to mention that you will also need wide elastic. So if you haven't bought some yet, go out and get some. About 2.5" - 3" wide. Better yet, if you can find some, get elastic lace 2.5" -3" wide. I doubt JoAnn's has any of this though. Some better stocked sewing stores might.

2. With five sheets at a time cut the top and right sides of the papers.
