My mom got a cabinet door and four table legs from a habitat restore and did the same thing. It came out so nice she ended up making two more for my sisters.

The tutorial is actually "by" Jenny Komenda of Little Green Notebook. Sorry, not trying to be nitpicky; I did see that the Pepper Design link credits her.
