Fourth-of -July Mini Frock

July 7, 2008

centered darkenedI had desperately wanted to sew something with a holiday theme. Fourth of July is great because the colors are so classic. This is what I came up with.

This is *not* a giveaway. It might have been, had I sewn the top better but there were a lot of ugly mistakes that you can't see so much in the photos.

I used a sweet cornflower blue and white polka dot material. The ruffled sleeves extend down past the armholes. I also added a little buttoned bib in the center. Lily looked great wearing it to the fireworks on Sunday.

Harrisburg had a fabulous display last night that was synchronized with music on the
radio. The whole family and about 200 others walked down the street to the nearby park which has an AMAZING view overlooking the river and the city. We set up a few chairs, blankets, snacks and made ourselves a great Sunday evening. Best of all, no beating the traffic after all was said and done:)

One more thing, congratulations to Tonya of A Day in my Life who was the winner of the Roosters'n'Rickrack Frock Giveaway. Please email me an address so I can send it your way!

Also, remember to check the 'winners' button to the right to see if you've won the Ice Cream Social Giveaway on Wednesday morning! I will be posting a new giveaway soon!

I LOVE your outfits, and I love how you set up all of the photos for them!

I have a question for you.
I am trying desperatly to learn to sew, I love looking at all these blogging mom's and the dresses they can make, I wanna join in the fun.

Do you know of a site that has learning to sew on video or anything? I need a tutorial so I quit crimping up the material!

Thank you so much in advance!

Take care.

How long does it take you to sew something like that? It is adorable. Do you use patterns, or just come up with stuff on your own? You've got me hooked on your blog!

I recently painted a little doll with a similar detail on the yolk that I thought of when I saw this dress. Great minds think alike! see it: http://springchickdesigns.blogspot.com/2008/06/kokeshi.html

Oh my goodness, you are from my neck of the woods!!! I haven't lived there in quite some time now (about 8 years) but I miss it so! Currently we are in Hawaii, but I could have gone for some good, old fashioned home cooking from home (which would be York). I loved the fireworks shot off in Harrisburg (is it still shot off in the baseball park?)!
