So DIY! Wouldn't this look great on brown paper packaging?!
Tutorials 48: Pencil Skirt Pattern
Great and simple knit pencil skirt tutorial by Suburbs Mama.
It looks like once you finished the first one you could crank these out pretty fast!
Tips 2: The Make Room
Another great tip for all you other room planners out there. Yesterday I shared with you the color palette generator. But here's another great tool!
I'm constantly rearranging furniture in my head but it doesn't always fit as I had planned. Going to try this to avoid moving heavy items unnecessarily.
Tips 1: Color Palette Generator

Okay, seriously love this!
No more guessing on colors again.
The possibilities with this are endless.
Find it here.

Cute Cheap Dress of the Day 4:
Only $24.50 at Yes Style.
Cute Peter Pan collar.
I don't think the scarf comes with it but you could add your own from any thrift store or your own stash.
But if you like this exact scarf you can get it here.
ALSO, try this coupon code: FACEBOOK5 to get $5 off your order! Enjoy!
Ideas 8: Backyard Movies
I've always wanted to do this. Don't really have the room but I live near Lancaster County where a lot of people own their own little barns on several acres of land. Wouldn't this be perfect for that?
You can also make your own screen out of white fabric if you don't own a white washed barn;)

See great how-to tips here.
Oh and if I had several acres of land I'd love to plant a little orchard on one or two of those acres and have fabulous dinner parties in the middle (although they'd have to be catered cause I'm no chef). Speaking of dinner parties, I attended an AMAZING one this weekend courtesy of my most stylish friend Cheila and her husband Nate (who did all the OH-SO-GOOD cooking on their own BTW). Hope to share and have pics soon!
Tutorials 46: Chevron Rug
I really liked the colors and rug in the photo at bottom. But when I looked for a wide patterned chevron rug for fairly little money I came up short. But I might try this technique below from Tatertots and Jello.
She even has a great suggestion as to how to deal with the 'crunchiness' factor;)
Update: Triangle Pillow Tutorial Translation
A seriously BIG thank you to Olga who translated Wednesday's triangle floor pillow tutorial!
She doesn't have a blog or else I'd link to it but she translated the WHOLE thing from Russian. Olga, you are great;)
I really love these and am thinking about trying them myself. They look easier than the traditional round beanbag pillows. I got out my old beanbags from the basement to put in the new kids room and they were unfortunately ruined. These seem really simple but different!

Here's the tutorial in English:
It says something like this:
STRIPED FLOOR PILLOWS
Would you like to suggest your guests to relax on original seats? Seating on those pads is unusually comfortable cause polyester inside follow shape of your body.
You need:
-180 x 90 cm upholstery fabric with small narrow stripes for the smaller pillows
- 120 x 240cm upholstery fabrics with wide strips for bigger pillows
-tailor's chalk
-long ruler
-granular polystyrene filling for floor pillow
-polyester thread to match
-silk thread to match
The size of pillows on one side: large - 117cm, small - 87 cm
1. Both pillows make in the same way. Fold the fabric on width in half, and press with your finger fold line. With tailor's chalk mark mark the center of the long edge.
2. Lay out the fabric on smooth and flat surface. Fold both short edges of rectangle toward the center, and mark with chalk on the opposite side of the longitudinal point of the fold.
3. Following the pattern, mark the edges of the fabric on the notation A, A1, Б, Б1,B, B1 and B2 which will guide you while sewing the seams
.4. Fold the fabric with right sides facing each other, so that edges A and A1 be in the same line. With polyester thread sew straight line leaving 1.5cm for seam.(This means to sew edges A and A1 together) Sew that line one more time and then do zig-zag so that fabric doesn't fray. it will strengthen the joints, so they do not burst during use of a pillow.
5. Do the same (sew double straight line and zig-zag ) with segments(edges) Б and Б1. Then shift a bit, opened part of rectangle so that edge B and edges B1 and B2 be in same line (B1 over first half of edge B, and B2 over second half of edge B) . Sew the first half of edge B and edge B1 together.
6.Turn the pillowcase inside out. Fill with polystyrene and fold inside 1.5cm (the width of your seam) of un-sewn edges (second half of edge B and edge B2). Pin those sides together and sew with invisible st these edges.
Under the image
Seams on the fabrics. Dotted lines shows the triangular faces of the finished pillow.
Note in circle:Do not fill the pillow with polystyrene to the top. When the pillow is on the floor, in the upper corner should be air, so that the balls filler have room to move, otherwise filling will be hard to take the form of a seated body.
White Dress Season

These might make you feel the same.

Instructions are in another language. Perhaps someone out there can translate?
Inspiration 27: Pleated Pants
What do you think? I think I like it. But I also think those pleats wouldn't last very long.
Tutorials 44- Coffee Table to Bench
July 5, 2011
Okay, I happen to think this is pretty genius. Would have never thought to change a coffee table like that.
I bet you could find pretty cheap coffee table at the thrift store.
Would also look good in a hallway leading to a door for putting on shoes.
DIY Photo Canvas Grosgrain Tutorial
I began this project because I loved the look of photo canvases but I loved them on a large scale. You can get really good deals on smaller sized canvases on the internet but the larger you get the far pricier it seems the project will be, for a 20x30+ it can start at $130.
Now before I begin I want to add this did not come out exactly as I had hoped. So I'm doing another version later but it will take a couple weeks to get all the materials that I've ordered off the internet. Until then I wanted to show you my first version of a DIY photo canvas.
Materials:
Canvas any size
Paper
Printer
Modpodge
Step 1: Print out your photo on your printer. To do this you can use: Block Posters to make a PDF of your image that is separated into pages. Be sure your photo is the length and width of your canvas PLUS the edge width. My edges were 1.5" wide so I added 3" on the length and width of the photo.
Print out PDF on your printer and cut left and bottom edges of each 8.5x11 sheet.
You can avoid all of this if you want to print at Staples but you would have to print in black and white. When you print in color at this size it's about $80! But in black and white it's about $10. Don't ask me why the steep difference.
Step 2: Glue the pieces together with a glue stick or rubber cement. I like rubber cement best because if you let it dry before you glue to the pages you can adjust the position of the pages.
Step 3: Brush Modpodge on your canvas.
Step 4: Lay your photo onto your canvas. Try to get out as many of the air bubbles as possible but you probably won't be able to get all of them. That's one of the reasons I didn't like the way this version came out.
Then put modpodge on the edges and fold over the paper to cover the edges. You can either fold the corners over or cut them off.
Step 5: Finally brush Modpodge over your entire photo and let dry. Here is another reason why I'm doing another version later. When the glue dried it left yellow streaks. I think this could be avoided by not laying on such a thick layer. If you try to do it this way then be sure that there aren't any places where the Modpodge pools.
See the streaks. They're not that bad in fact they sort of add texture to the canvas but I'd still rather not have them. Like I said, if you didn't lay the glue on thick you could probably avoid them.
Done. Stay tuned for another version in two weeks.
Total cost: $30 for 40x30 canvas
$7 for Modpodge
The cost of ink and paper were things I already had but you might want to keep that in mind when you are doing this project.
=$37 Total

Ideas 6: Glowing Tables
July 4, 2011
Garden stake lights or a small battery-operated camping lantern under tablecloths.
Lovely for a twilight soiree.
Happy Fourth of July!
Remember Photoshoot Concepts 8? Well, I had my own little opportunity to try it out last night.
I had to use my speed lite since there were several things I had to change with the flash that couldn't be controlled on the camera alone.
First, I set it to go off at the end of the 4 second exposure rather than the beginning. But honestly, I'm not sure if that matters or not.
Then I set it to only 1/16th intensity.
The kids next to us were setting off flashers so it didn't come out perfect then the fireworks started so we had to quit but I might try again tonight and play with more settings;)
Fun.
Hey! Wouldn't this make a neat wedding proposal idea? The guy would write "marry me"and the girl would see the whole message when they looked to see how the photograph turned out. Someone out there back me up!

Ideas 4: No More Ring Stains
Coasters that fit on your glasses. Genius.
Just cut out of felt. No more worrying about your guests leaving their wet drinks on your wood funiture!
I wonder if the Sizzix machine would have a die for this?
Party 3: Birthday Morning Surprise
July 3, 2011
My daughter Lily's birthday is coming up in a couple weeks.
I am thinking about using this cute birthday morning idea.
Inspiration Home 5: Retractable Awning
I've always wanted to try and make something like this for our hot hot deck.
To replicate without a pergola you might need some ingenuity. But I bet all the materials you would need you could find at Lowes or Home Depot. Maybe you could use some kind of curtain track sliders for the hanging hooks?
Looks totally like something Ana White would have on her site. I should send out a request.

Isn't this the smartest idea?
Use a glue gun to write/make designs on plain jars before painting them.
Happy Fourth of Jooool-eye Weekend
Happy pre-Fourth of July!
Here's a retro red and white bathing suit to set the mood;)
Enjoy the day.

Inspiration Kids 2: Play Kitchen
Remember all that beechwood furniture from last decade? Well, there's a lot of it still around. At thrift stores, in your garage. If you have something like this waiting for an upcoming yardsale, try making this instead! So creative, right?! Looks just like the $99 ones for sale at Target.
