I've been following Adventures in Dressmaking so long I can't remember exactly when or how I stumbled across her blog. But what I do remember is that I was instantly caught by her cute Anthropologie replicated designs.
The nice part about Suzannah's blog is that she shows you exactly what patterns she used to make the dress and other examples of similar dresses that inspired it so that you can create the exact same look!
Like the one we're seeing today!
It's no wonder that Suzannah became such a fabulous sewing blogger. Her mother is in the business of making historic clothing for historic sites, museums, and reenactors. See some of the truly amazing recreations here. Sometimes I wish I had more people in my life who liked to dress up and hold events like this!
For a while now she's been planning her wedding, INCLUDING sewing her own wedding dress. Bravo!

I discovered Kelly's blog after she had been featured as a guest poster on another sewing blog I follow. And after perusing her site I immediately added her feed to my reader!
Kelly is a girl after my own heart. She makes the cutest little outfits for her little daughter (which is how Grosgrain began too!) and offers patterns for the pieces she showcases!

Kelly, not only makes the most gorgeous frocks but she lives in the beautiful tropical location of East Timor (close to Bali) which is actually how her blog came to be. Timor has one fabric store and zero craft type stores. The local “fabric stores” only carry solid colors or mildly hideous floral prints.

I am positively GIDDY to be here on Grosgrain today. I have been following Kathleen for so long I don't even remember when I started! When we both took a photography workshop together I was to timid to introduce myself, I just slunk around standing next to her hoping some genius would rub off.... that sounds creepier then it actually was ha! Anyway, I have been saving this particular pattern for a long time waiting for just the right moment. I was going to save it For Sewing In No Mans Land one year anniversary but I thought Grosgrain called for my favorite! Thats what this is, my favorite outfit I have made my Evie (my 18 month old girl). Because of my location on a small island close to Bali I have been heavily influenced by Balinese fashion. Light, airy, cotton and super super comfy. When Evie wears it she looks blissfully free and cool, so I named it the Bali Bliss outfit.

Free Pattern Month Day 8 - Gertie's New Blog for Better Sewing: Half Slip Pattern

I found Gretchen's blog after a fellow blogger recommended it to me. But I've also seen her via Burdastyle as one of their very prolific members!
Her blog began in a sort of Julie & Julia style. In September of 2008, she came across Vogue's New Book for Better Sewing: a guide from 1952, that, through the completion of 14 Vogue patterns, promised to make one an expert home seamstress. She decided to track down all the patterns from 1952 and make them, documenting each on a blog. Then on June 22nd she wrote her first blog post and hasn't looked back since. Gretchen's site has since grown into more than just a sew and see blog. If you enjoy my 'Frock by Friday' sewalongs you should check out Gretchen's most recent 'Lady Grey' sew along. The pattern (by Colette Patterns) is moderately difficult but Gretchen takes you through each step, describing the RIGHT way to sew a complicated coat.
Admittedly, I have a tendency to short cut my way through sewing at times, Gretchen shows you the RIGHT way ie. the better way;)

But one of my favorite parts of Gretchen's blog is her talent for explaining techniques. Like I mentioned earlier, Gretchen is fantastic at explaining the right way to sew. In fact she teaches sewing classes in New York and is currently authoring a book out Fall 2012 from STC Craft/Melanie Falick Books!

This was one of the very first tutorials I offered on my blog,and I still think it's one of the most satisfying projects to make if you just have a
hour or so. I came up with this half slip project after I realized that most vintage
patterns aren't lined. What did ladies wear under their dresses? Why, slips, of
course! In my quest to understand all the intricacies of home sewing in the 1950s, I
decided that I needed some slips.
