Love this linen leaf table runner via Martha Stewart.
Looks gauzy.

Ideas 22: Soft Grass Rug

Okay! I'd seriously love to make a really large version of this for the girls room. I'd add flowers that grew up out of the grass and a few toadstools, maybe one big one for sitting. Wouldn't that be the CUTEST?! Question is, how long would it take? I wonder if there would be an easier way using mesh and cow hitch knots. Either way, it sounds endless. Get the knitted tut at Lion Brand. But you have to sign up for an account to get access.

Decisions, Decisions: Small Sewing Spaces

Image via LovelyDesign.

I've been at a crossroads with the kids room. We're moving the girls upstairs into what was my old craft room. It's a rather large room 15'x15' which will accommodate all their toys, books, bunk bed, desks and sofa with room in the center for playing and their own half-bath. I'm sort of lamenting that we never did it sooner. It just felt weird to have them upstairs when our bedroom is downstairs. But now that most of their toys are moved it feels like the size of our house has doubled and keeping the living room and dining room clean has gotten 10x easier.

However, moving everything out and everything in has been quite a task with Brian working until 9pm every week day. All we need to do is move the bunk bed upstairs this weekend and it will be done! After which the next task will be setting up my new sewing room. It's been difficult not having a place to sew for a couple months.

Below Image via Little Miss Momma
The kids old room is very small about 12'x6' with an extra 6'x'3' space for the door opening and a 6'x3' closet. I was going to have this be my new sewing room. But now I'm trying to decide if I should move Eloise to the old girl's room and move my sewing room into her old room. Eloise's nursery (which is actually the sun room) is also small about 10.5'x6' with no closet. I'm just worried I won't be able to fit all the things I once had in the upstairs room. But it seems more appropriate to finally put the baby in a real bedroom.

I need enough floor space for my large 6'x5' table which can be split into two smaller tables if necessary, my sewing dress forms, ironing board, lamps and space to store extra fabric. I'm leaning toward the smaller sun room but I'm still unsure.

Whatever happens I'm looking forward to planning the new space. My old sewing room was big but it had a lot of unrelated extraneous furniture we stored upstairs which cluttered up the space. Do any of you have a favorite photo of a craft room you've seen on the internet for some inspiration? What are some of the most essential things you need in your sewing room?

Ideas 18: Love Letter Hankies

Well, this is just lovely. Literally.
Love letter hankies for newlyweds.
These are actually printables that you can use at your wedding for guests to write congrats and hang them up on a faux clothing line but I thought it might be a sweet thing to embroider on a real hanky for your loved one too....if you're good at that sort of thing. A poem would be sweet too.

Wow 39: Wings

I haven't posted a wow in a while because I just haven't found anything that I thought was worthy. But this caught my eye. Bead work made to appear like angel wings on an open back dress. Really gorgeous!

Ideas 17: White Washed Palette Coffee Table

It looks like Ana White fans are getting in on all this palette love too! This one was submitted to her site by Make It Lovely. You know I think it would be even neater if you went down to your local glass company and bought a custom cut sheet to put on top. If you were even more ambitious you could get glass drill bits and screw it into the wood but I don't think I'd have the courage. Perhaps you could use plexiglass?
This one is also from Ana White and it is made of palettes but I think you might need a little more skill as it is produced from one of her FREE table plans. But in all, the entire table was made for only $2!

Ideas 16: Sweater Purse

NYC trip

So yesterday I rode in the train from Harrisburg to New York City to meet with Burdastyle! I'm working with them on a special project/collaboration. And since Brian takes the train to Philly every day for work, I had someone to chat with half up and half back. So that worked out like awesome sauce;)

I met with the project manager Jamie Lau, who is just darling! I'm so psyched to be working with her. The moment I arrived she helped me make a snappy little espresso and introduced me to all the Burdastyle staff who I've only known in avatar form;)

After our big meeting, Jamie walked me through the garment district including all the most popular shops, B&J, Mood. I bought a cute little ice-cream plaid fabric for $17 a yard (see top). I'd never pay that here but I figured what the heck it's NY. And I think it was worth it because it has inspired me to FINALLY make a new dress. I just have to get the kids bunks upstairs once and for all so I can finish my craft room.

I also got a look at their first book which will be coming out soon! And I can safely say, it's definitely worth the wait! So many amazing projects! So much eye candy. Just like Burdastyle! It's definitely on my must-own list of sewing books.

I'll probably be heading back to the Burdastyle offices in the beginning of August, so I'll update you more then!
